“I believe in being learner-centered as much as possible, so that drives everything that I do. I believe in students, learners being able to demonstrate what they’re able to do, so I guess developing autonomy and independence is kind of at the heart of that, right? Empowering students so that they’re not going to need a teacher, need an instructor. It starts with learner-centeredness, and from there, how can you develop their ability to teach themselves?”
Brian Lorraine is an educator, musician, and occasional freelance writer. Having spent several years from 2005 on working in different capacities in a variety of programs at Red River College’s Language Training Centre, he joined the department full time in 2012. For the last two years, he has found a home teaching in the Academic English Program for University and College Entrance (AEPUCE). He is passionate about greater possibilities for teaching and learning through educational technology, and is pursuing a related Master’s degree.
